Acrylic on canvas assemblage ...about 3 foot by 2 foot

Born of frustration a long time ago ...my local painting pseudonym was first created here with this work ...when during dating a gallery owner...i got fed up watching pasty-ass prints march out of her store while works i had spent weeks on , while greatly admired , went unpurchased. I decieded to mass produce paintings whose only criteria was they had to be done in less than 5 hours ... I invented " Artsi Rhodes " who (in turn ) invented "disc-ism " ... a hasty artist's alternative to "pointilism "...

Because much of my realworld paintings ( if not illustrative ) involve 3D elements.. i tore up a standard cardboard box and that became the treebark and cut out ruff circles ( discs) from good illustration board for foreground 3D elements ... Her dress is foamcore which bent after scoring retains it shape. All these were glued on the canvas. It was very 3d even tho this old phot doesnt show it off well.

It sold within 2 weeks ...

i am currently working on "discism " digital works for prints ...

A work with an ironic story behind it, yes...i am Artsi Rhodes... by =Fangfingers and it's "discism" nevertheless has great visual appeal. (Featured by `oedalis)

At this point, Artsi, I feel I must tell you that I absolutley hate pointillism. However, this is not pointillism so I don't hate it :) The usage of discs goes well on my brain. The overall composition is good and the placing, choice and strength of colours is really nice too. I love the leftest-most tree and the pretty flowers that adorn it's base.
So, in summary, tasteful usage of circles but watch they don't get any smaller or more numerous. :)

Rock on.

I've never seen anything done like this before. Pointillism yes, but not this. Great idea. I wasn't too sure about the picture itself, but reading your description gave it a whole new look. I am glad you did that.

At first, I thought it to be the clay, since I've seen your work with such before. And, I've seen how children play with playdoh, occassionally leaving behind little flat discs of it till it dried up. LoL

I admire this one. I'm not very hip on what you've done as far as subject, but do like the idealism in it. The cardboard tree struck me in awe. I've often thought of getting downright silly and using things like that, but then....worried it wouldn't come out right or look completely idiotic.

Thank you for sharing this. I would like to see more however.

The first thing i noticed was how the "circles" like in her dress, continued onto the rest of the pic in the leaves and roads etc... then I noticed the 3d effect of it all.. then i read your description...lol..
isn't it a wonder how you can put hours/days of work into something, a pic you love and are proud of, and no one barely notices it, yet do something which is fast, may have no meaning or effort and might even be totally stupid and people eat it up?...lol... happens here on DA all the time... Digital disc-ism is already here, lol, in one form or another... mainly in photo collages, notice how people grab a stock photo of a nice sunset on a beach, throw in a digital planet/moon and a nebula or stars and get literally hundreds of faves and views, for whay took them perhaps 1 hours of digital work...
